This will be a play on last year’s regional project, which was the “Shoebox Project”. The goal of this project is to fill 10+ shoeboxes with items for a local women’s shelter, the Catherin McAuley Center for Homeless Women and Children.
Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine will be hosting a drive for the months of August and September to collect items for the shoeboxes. These items will include feminine hygiene products, over the counter pain medications for menstrual cramps, unused underwear, and lightly used bras. Conference attendees will also be encouraged to bring items to donate.
The boxes will be gifted towomen who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in the area. Each thoughtfully created Shoebox will be filled with items valued around $50. We hope that we can help enhance self-esteem and reduce feelings of isolation for women in crisis.
